About
Chris Moreno
Chris Moreno is a candidate for State Representative in
the 48th District.
Chris has lived in the 48th district for 15 years and is
currently elected to the Jackson County Democratic Committee, where
he serves as Co-Chair of the Web & Technology Committee and
is a member of the Audit Committee. He is the General Manager of a Cingular Wireless store and is also a member of the Lee’s
Summit Morning Optimist Club; a community organization that works
to help bring education, happiness and possibilities to youth in the community. He is a member of the Summit
Democratic Club and the Raytown Democratic Association. Chris is engaged to his "high school sweetheart" Cortney, who was born and raised in the Lee's Summit area, a graduate of Lee's Summit High School and a graduate of Central Missouri State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and a Bachelor's Degree in Management. Like Chris, Cortney is from a hard working labor family.
Born in Raytown, Chris is a proud member of a hard
working middle-class family. Chris’s Grandfather
served the nation protecting Merchant Marine ships during World War II.
Chris’s father David is a Vietnam-Veteran, COPE Director for
Tri-County Labor and former two-term Vice President of UAW Local
31. His mother Joanna is retired from AT&T and is a proud member
of the CWA. At the age of 4 Chris stood with the auto workers when General
Motors closed their Leed's Plant for good.Chris believes strongly
in fighting for veterans, workers rights, health insurance for workers
and a living wage.
While living in Kansas City, Chris attended Calvary Lutheran
School, where he was taught his solid foundation in faith. Chris and his family, then moved to Lee's Summit to be closer to family while he was in middle school.
After moving to Lee’s Summit, Chris, his twin brother Nick
and older brother Anthony still remained active in sports at the Raytown Sports
Association.
Chris and his brothers attended Pleasant Lee Junior High School
and Lee’s Summit High School. While in high school, Chris
was nominated Junior Class president and was a member of the National
Forensics League. Faculty members saw something special in Chris,
and chose him to be a “High School Hero.” It was in
that capacity that he toured the R-7 School District teaching the
negative effects of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Chris knows Lee’s
Summit, and is proud to have grown up in such a stable, nurturing
community. Having attended both private and public schools,
Chris knows the value of truly funding education, and believes it
is the bedrock of any great community.
Chris went on to attend Central Missouri State University where
he became active in the civic life of the college. Chris was Co-Founder
of the Latino Student Union, winner of the Azteca De Kansas
City Spirit Award, and Vice-President of the award winning CMSU
Model United Nations Team. He was awarded the prestigious Delegate’s
Choice Award in St. Louis for his work on the MMUN High
Council on Refugees, and was a member of both the Political Science
Student Association and CMSU College Democrats.
Due to his hard work, dedication and leadership skills, Chris was
appointed to serve as an Outreach Director for the Missouri Coordinated
Campaign and Democratic National Committee Presidential Campaign
in Kansas City, the top campaign team in the United States. While
working on the campaign, Chris learned from the many individuals
he encountered about effects of policies on real people in Missouri.
The proudest moment of Chris’s life came when he was the
first in his family to graduate college with a Bachelor’s
Degree in Political Science and a minor in Communications. Chris
believes that the rising cost of college tuition, and the current
lack of proper funding, is an issue that is hurting thousands of
families just like his. As your representative he will
work to bring affordable higher education back to Missouri.
Chris is from a very close knit family, and credits this fact for
his achievements in life. From public education, health care, prescription
drugs, workers rights or college tuition, Chris has personally seen
the effects of irresponsible Republican policy on his own family, and believes thousands
of families across the state are feeling the same pressures. Once
in Jefferson City, Chris will take his energy, passion and life
experiences to the Capital, endlessly fighting for real changes
that truly matter to the hardworking residents of Lee’s Summit,
Raytown and Kansas City.
Unlike previous representatives in the 48th District, Chris
will truly work to reach across political divides and agenda politics
to create solutions for the people of the 48th District and all
Missouri residents.
Chris Moreno is ready and willing to be your voice in the
Missouri House of Representatives.
