Safe
Communities
Currently, the Lee’s Summit Police Department, Fire
Fighters and Emergency Personnel rank at the bottom of the list
when it comes to pay and benefits.
I believe that it is ridiculous that those who defend the safety
of our communities and rescue us in times of crisis must struggle
each and every day. We must provide better pay and benefits for
the courage and sacrifice it takes to do their job, and for their
families.
Jackson County is one of two counties in the state that does not
have a full-time staff hired to register and monitor sex offenders.
Because of this over 35 percent of predators currently fail to appear
on registries in our communities. This is dangerous for our children
and families and must act immediately.
As your State Representative I will:
- Demand that every county in Missouri has a full-time staff
registering sex offenders and predators. I believe that there
must be a constantly updated, central database for all counties
to work together to maintain as well.
I will push for better pay and benefits for our police officers,
fire fighters and emergency personnel in Lee’s Summit and
Raytown.
- I will work to allow for park rangers to have the ability to
be armed. They go through the same training as our police officers
and many times are the first on the scene of a crime both, in
and around, our parks.
- I will also work to mandate that all sex education courses
teach about the dangers of online predators and revealing private
information and pictures in chat rooms, websites and blogs.
As technology continues to progress, we must continue to find new
ways to better protect and inform our communities, so that they
remain safe and wonderful.
