The
Issues: Workers Rights
Last legislative session saw one of the most vigorously anti-worker
sessions in our state since the 1980s Ashcroft Administration. Because
our leaders in Jefferson City passed legislation for mega corporate
campaign contributors, workers and small businesses lost out. It
is now much harder for workers to have their voices heard when sick
or injured. It is now extremely difficult for workers to have their
fair day in court, because of Court Reform that prevents our Judicial
Branch from providing a fair playing field between those that represent
hard working class Missourians and well paid corporate attorneys.
I believe in an optimistic view of workers here in Missouri. I
believe that workers work to feed their family and not just for
hopes of suing their bosses. I believe workers should be paid a
living wage that allows for our communities and economy to benefit,
while also being given good health benefits that take care of those
they care for in times of emergency. I also believe that we should
focus tax credits for those businesses and small businesses that
create jobs here in Missouri that pay living wages and good benefits.
Giving handouts to CEOs that don’t live in this state or to
wealthy lobbyist interests is not what we need in government. We
must shift the focus back to the hard working class Missourians
and businesses that care about providing good jobs to help our communities.
